Preferred contractor announced for key Melbourne Airport Rail package

Rail Projects Victoria has announced that a consortium comprising RA members John Holland, CIMIC Group’s CPB Contractors, AECOM and KBR has been selected as the preferred contractor to deliver the Sunshine Station upgrade that is a core element of the Melbourne Airport Rail project.
This project will see Sunshine Station transformed into a transport superhub as a key transport connection point for the regions, Melbourne’s CBD and the airport.
The program of upgrades include a new regional platform allowing Bendigo services to stop for the first time, a new second concourse and accessibility improvements as part of Melbourne Airport Rail, and a Western Rail Plan initiative to extend regional platforms to cater for longer VLocity trains.
A ‘flyover’ section of elevated rail will also be constructed between Sunshine and the Albion rail junction.
