Policy & Advocacy
Transport Australia brings together industry and government to promote sustainable economic growth and liveability.
We are focused on productivity, people and capability and safety, system outcomes and the end-user now and into the future.

Productivity
Transport underpins almost every part of the Australian economy. Our advocacy focuses on improving the performance, reliability and
productivity of the transport system, including better use of existing assets, practical delivery reform, and removing barriers that add cost without improving outcomes.
Workforce
A stronger transport system depends on a skilled and diverse workforce. Through our leadership programs, member forums and industry engagement, we support the development of a diverse, skilled and connected transport workforce.
Network resilience
We advocate for a transport network that is resilient to shocks from climate, economy, geopolitics, cyber security and decarbonisation.
Safety
Safety remains central to our policy agenda. We advocate for system-wide approaches that reduce trauma, protect workers, improve network design and respond to changing user behaviour, technology and movement patterns.

Road to reform: Why Australia needs a sustainable funding model
May 2026
Australia’s road funding model was built for a different economy and a different vehicle fleet. This paper makes the case for replacing the declining fuel excise with a nationally harmonised road user charging framework, one that is fair, transparent and linked directly to road investment.

Through our four policy programs we advocate for meaningful change in transport policy. Policy partners provide thought leadership, shape research and drive advocacy.
You’ll help develop influential policy reports, the selection of topics and speakers for our events, and you’ll have guaranteed access to Leaders’ Lunches and relevant policy events, forums and more.
Being a policy partner is a powerful way to amplify your voice and drive meaningful change in our sector.
