Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is an internationally accepted practice to manage underground utilities and ensure they are taken into account during the design phase of a construction project.
The upgraded version of AS5488 has just been released by Standards Australia and Engineers Australia has now released the associated online training course.
The adoption of AS5488 has the potential to be a game changer in how underground utilities are managed – saving both lives and significant sums of money through the construction phase which, in Australia’s current infrastructure boom, continues to be an ongoing issue.
International experience suggests that adopting the approach set out in AS5488 will deliver a multitude of benefits for industry participants in the Australian market.
