Transport Australia (TA) has announced the appointment of Jeroen Weimar, Secretary of the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning, to its Board.

Chief Executive Officer Ehssan Veiszadeh said Mr Weimar’s appointment further strengthens TA’s ability to lead the national conversation as the peak body for Australia’s integrated transport system.

“Transport underpins every major national priority,” Mr Veiszadeh said. “Jeroen brings extensive operational and strategic experience, and a clear understanding of the optimisation challenge facing Australia’s transport networks.”

The TA Board brings together CEO/C-Suite transport leaders from the private and public sectors.

Chair Aneetha de Silva said “our Board is our strength and we are delighted to welcome Jeroen to it”.

Mr Weimer will join alongside his peer transport agency leaders, Jim Betts, Secretary, Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts; Sally Stannard, Director-General, Queensland Department of Transport and Josh Murray, Secretary at Transport for NSW.

“Ms de Silva said. “Jeroen’s background in transport planning, system operations and network reform as a senior leader both in the UK and Australia will be an asset to the Board’s deliberations.

Mr Weimar said he looks forward to contributing to Transport Australia’s work on integrated, highperforming networks.

“Across the country, we’re facing the same challenges and opportunities – population growth, emerging technologies, and the need to build networks that are safer, more reliable and more sustainable.” Mr Weimar said. “I look forward to working closely with colleagues across the sector to drive improvements that benefit communities nationwide.”

Transport Australia thanks outgoing Director Kevin Devlin for his significant contribution to the organisation’s growth and strategic direction. Mr Devlin, the Director General for the Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority, commenced as Suburban Rail Loop Authority’s interim CEO in January.

As Secretary of the Department of Transport and Planning, Mr Weimar leads a department that integrates Victoria’s key transport, planning, land, precinct and policy functions, and oversees generational projects and reforms.

He has held various senior positions across the Victorian Public Service, including CEO for Public Transport Victoria and VicRoads, leading Victoria’s COVID response and, more recently, as Deputy Secretary of Housing Statement Implementation. He has also served as Chief Operating Officer of Transport for London.

Transport Australia, formerly Roads Australia, brings together government and industry to help shape a truly integrated and user-focused transport system that connects communities, enables economic growth, and supports national productivity.
